“Mary Poppins” flies onto the stage at 7:30 p.m. March 31, April 1; 2 p.m. April 2; 7:30 p.m. April 7, 8 and 2 p.m. April 9, auditorium, Nazareth Area High School, 501 East Center St., Nazareth.
The musical, a fusion of P. L. Travers’ children’s books and Walt Disney’s 1964 movie of the same title, with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, opened on Broadway in 2006.
Nanny Mary Poppins flies into the chaotic Banks household in 1910 London. With her multi-talented friend Bert, Mary brings magic and common sense to siblings Jane and Michael Banks, and to their dysfunctional parents, as well.
Dr. Beth Peters-Ferrara directs the Nazareth production. She is assisted by music director Pamela Westphal, choreographer Colette Boudreaux, assistant director John Andreadis, pit orchestra director Rick Hillborn and set designers Damien Erdie and Al Kratzer.
“Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Feed the Birds” and “Anything Can Happen” are among the featured songs. The Broadway production was nominated for seven Tony Awards in 2007, receiving one.
