The Sanctuary at Haafsville is in the midst of a campaign to raise funds for constructing a new building at the animal shelter along Nestle Way, Breinigsville.

The campaign received a shot in the arm recently when Rick Beuttel, director of business development for Air Products, presented a $5,000 check to Liz Jones, the Sanctuary’s executive director.

The money, from an award given to Beuttel for his work with Air Products, was earmarked for a local charity, left to the discretion of Beuttel.

Beuttel and his wife Sue, adopted a dog from the no-kill shelter last May, and their son Ryan is going through training to work at the facility as a volunteer.

“This is going to do a lot, and it’s so important we get this new building so we have more space to shelter animals looking for homes,” Jones said.

The new building will be just under 2,000 square feet and will feature 16 indoor/outdoor runs for dogs, with radiant heated floors in the kennels for winter.

There will also be office space, three meet-and-greet rooms for prospective adoptive families, storage and a medical treatment room.

Being able to move the dog-care operations into a separate building will also benefit the shelter’s cat population, which will have more room in the current facility once the dogs are moved out. Construction is expected to begin next month on the new building.

In 2016, the organization placed over 1,600 animals.

“We were just happy to help,” Beuttel said. “It will be nice to see the new building and know that Air Products had a role to play in helping to complete it and help the local community.”

The Beuttel family adopted Luna last May and added her to their mix of dogs after seeing her online as The Sanctuary looked for a home for her.

Luna has fit in well with the family’s other dogs.

“We’re well familiar with the work here and Luna has become such a part of our family and we’re glad to have her,” Beuttel said. “She fits right in.”

In a letter to The Sanctuary’s Treasurer Julie Hoffman, Air Products Community Relations and Philanthropy representative Laurie Hackett thanked the shelter for ts impact on the community.

“At Air Products, we feel fortunate to work with you and appreciate the sincerity and energy that you put into the community to make a significant difference. The opportunity we have to work with you is one that we take seriously.

“Thank you for serving the community and we are honored to be able to support your mission and the good work of The Sanctuary at Haafsville,” Hackett wrote.
