Robert J. Duval

The Rev. Robert J. Duval, 78, of Whitehall, died March 13, 2017, in his home.

He and his wife Gloria (Coe) Duval were married 57 years.

Born March 13, 1939, in Bristol, Conn., he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Juliet A. (Laurendeau) Duval.

A graduate of Bristol High School and Trinity College, Hartford, Conn., he served seven years in the U.S. Air Force earning the rank of captain.

He was assigned to the Strategic Air Command and served as an electronic warfare officer on the B-52 Bomber aircraft.

Upon being honorably discharged, he moved his family to Connecticut and was employed at Aetna Life and Casualty Co., Hartford, for 17 years.

He decided to pursue a calling to become a priest in the Episcopal Church and attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., earning a Master’s degree in divinity.

He was ordained to the priesthood serving as vicar of Christ Church in Trumbull, Conn.

After 11 years, he became the rector of St. Peter’s Church, Hebron, Conn. where he served until his retirement in 2003.

He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Allentown.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by children Craig R. Duval of Hempstead, N.Y., Lisa M. Steinagel and her husband, Edward, of Schnecksville; siblings Roger Duval and his wife, Elaine, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Dolores Noonan of Portland, Conn.; grandchildren Lauren, Bella and Lucas Duval, Amanda and Sara Steinagel.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Alyssa Duval, a brother, Albert Duval, and brother-in-law, William Noonan.

His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on March 25 in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1900 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Allentown.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Church, 1900 E. Pennsylvania Ave. Allentown, PA 18109.
