District news: Food drive now ends March 24

Whitehall-Coplay Middle School’s annual canned food drive has been extended. It now will run through March 24.

Each homeroom competes for the most canned food items collected.

The drive is always a huge success, and the students and staff learn to reach out to their community during the collection. All the food collected will be donated to local food banks and Second Harvest to help the Whitehall community.

Parents and guardians may begin the process of kindergarten registration. Access and complete the online registration by logging on to the district website, whitehallcoplay.org. Then select a date and time to meet with the enrollment secretary, Mrs. Michelle Khouri, to present all the required documentation.

To complete the registration, parents and guardians will be given an appointment to bring their child to meet with the guidance counselor or principal, school nurse, ESOL teacher and reading specialist for a brief assessment at Gockley Elementary School April 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7, with a snow make-up day of April 10.

Your child must be 5 years old before Sept. 1, 2017.

The end of the third marking period is April 3. Be sure to discuss any issues or concerns you may have with your child and your child’s teacher. Report cards will be distributed April 12.

***

If your family plans on taking a trip during school, a special form must be completed and returned to the office prior to the trip.

Educational trips are limited to seven school day absences per year. Any days missed beyond seven days will be an illegal absence if the student’s age is 16 or younger.
