LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. In what grade are you?

A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is math. I have loved riddles ever since I was a little girl, and to me math just seems like one big puzzle.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. In my high school career, I have received both academic and athletic awards. I have received the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Outstanding Leader of Character, Student of the Month for the science, English and computer departments, Girl of the Month for the Woman’s Club of Emmaus, the Passion for Science and Leadership in Science Awards, the World Studies Honors Award and have achieved Principal’s Honor Roll every marking period. I am a member of National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. For soccer, I was a two-year varsity captain, named First Team All-Conference (three times), Morning Call All-Area (three times), All-State, Regional All-American and I was on the All-American Preseason Watch List. My senior year I was named Team MVP and Morning Call Soccer Player of the Week. Lastly, I was selected as the EHS Girls Soccer Scholar Athlete and the EPC Girls Soccer Scholar Athlete.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. The extracurricular activities I am involved in include Young Life, Pediatric Cancer Club and Health Wellness and Fitness Club. I am the president of student government and a coordinator of Emmaus’ Tutor Program. In the fall, I was a member of the girls soccer team and I am currently competing on the fitness team.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school I will be attending West Point United States Military Academy where I will be a member of the women’s soccer team. My goal is to become the best person, student, athlete, leader and Army officer that I can be.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. When I was in middle school I had some very serious injuries that I had to work for a year to overcome. I was not able to participate in a lot of things including soccer, but after a long, hard year of recovery and support from my friends and family I finally got back to my old self. That experience taught me to never, ever give up no matter how big the obstacles may be.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as a good friend and leader both on and off the field and for not ever being afraid to stick up for what is right.

Q. Who is in your family?

A. The members of my family include my mom Mary, my dad Rich, my sisters Shannon and Jenna, and my dog Bingo.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. The people I admire most in my life are my parents. They have sacrificed so much for us three girls over the years and continue to encourage us to pursue our dreams every day. Nothing that I have accomplished would have been possible without them. They will forever be my ultimate role models.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. If I could give any advice to my peers it would be to work hard at everything you do and be open-minded about trying new things. High school is about finding out who you are, so don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. This mindset has opened so many doors for me from finding another passion (the fitness team) at EHS to being accepted into West Point.
