First of four parts

Based on an informal analysis by The Press of statistics for 2016 provided by the Salisbury Township Police Department, incidents seem to have increased in most categories, compared to 2015.

There were nearly 1,000 more calls dispatched and several hundred more incident reports in Salisbury Township.

Adult arrests increased by more than 100, traffic arrests increased by more than 100 and juvenile arrests, non-traffic arrests, crash investigations, DUI arrests and parking tickets issued also increased in the township.

Township commissioners at the March 9 meeting approved the hiring of two new full-time officers, bringing the staff to 19. The hirings were approved for the 2016 budget, but will be implemented in 2017.

Township police department revenue for 2016 also increased in most categories.

Salisbury Township Chief of Police Allen W. Stiles released the annual year in review report to commissioners and the media.

Here are highlights of the police department statistics for 2016 for Salisbury, which has a population of 13,505 and housing units totaling 5,285 in an area of 11.4-square-miles.

Calls dispatched totaled 8,883 in 2016, up from 7,987 in 2015.

Incident reports totaled 6,591 in 2016, up from 5,844 in 2015.

Arrests of adults were 393 in 2016, up from 279 in 2015.

Traffic arrests were 3,306 in 2016, up from 3,173 in 2015.

Juvenile arrests were 90 in 2016, up from 73 in 2015.

Non-traffic arrests were 250 in 2016, up from 219 in 2015.

Crash investigations were 413 in 2016, up from 349 in 2015.

Arrests for DUI totaled 34 in 2016, up from 26 in 2015.

Parking tickets issued totaled 829, up from 414 in 2015.

In other statistics compiled from the annual police report, ambulance calls were 1,026 in 2016, up from 1,007 in 2015.

Fire calls were 192 in 2016, down from 205 in 2015.

Alarm responses totaled 428 in 2016, down from 456 in 2015.

In terms of police staffing, overtime hours totaled 3,640.5 in 2016, up from 3,500 in 2015.

Part-time police hours totaled 1,559 in 2016, down from 1,867 hours in 2015.

Court hours for township police totaled 369 in 2016, up from 214 in 2015.

Police cruiser hours totaled 179,694 in 2016, down from 189,283 in 2015.

Police department revenue was $138,071.74 in 2016, up from $115,471.79 in 2015.

In police department revenue, vehicle code violations totaled $77,938.39 for 2016, up from $64,386.44 for 2015.

Parking tickets revenue was $1,455 in 2016, up from $535 in 2015.

Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest parking tickets revenue was $8,864.50 in 2016, up from $4,812 in 2015.

Police reports revenue was $3,959.75 in 2016, up from $3,906.25 in 2015.

County fines revenue was $8,759.10 in 2016, up from $6,707.10 in 2015.

Security alarm ordinance revenue was $25 in 2016, down from $600 in 2015.

Fingerprints revenue was $125 in 2016, up from $80 in 2015.

Fire inspection fines revenue was $36,945 in 2016, up from $34,435 in 2015.
