The Kiwanis Club of Emmaus will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt 1 p.m. (rain or shine) April 15 at Emmaus Community Park, 13th and Broad streets. The hunt includes five age groups (toddlers through age 10). There are prizes for numbered eggs. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to add to the festivities. Plaudits to the club members for offering this popular community event for 65 years.
The Kiwanis Club will host its Walter C. Stoudt Memorial Prayer Breakfast 7:30 a.m. April 14 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 501 Chestnut St. The speaker will be Pastor Mia White from Hope United Church of Christ. Tickets are required. Jack Jones of JJ’s Woodcrafter will display his talent for birdhouse construction and share his knowledge of features for birdhouses required to attract birds at the April 4 Emmaus Garden Club’s meeting. He will display more than 25 birdhouses. The Garden Club meets 12:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. The public is welcome to attend. For information, call 610-554-0677.
St. Ann Knights of Columbus will host a Lenten Seafood dinner 5 to 7 p.m. March 31 at St. Ann’s school cafeteria, 435 S. Sixth St. Proceeds support Knights of Columbus’s charitable causes. Community members from the area are invited to participate in the April 8 Earth Day event held at Emmaus Community Park. Volunteers will clean litter and debris from sites around the borough and Upper Milford Township. Electronics recycling and document shredding will be available. The group gathers 8:30 a.m. for coffee and to get organized. The group returns to the park for lunch and educational community fun at noon. For information, call Paula at 610-965-9292.
April 1 is the deadline for purchasing a brick for the Emmaus Remembrance Garden’s Memorial Day May 28 installation ceremony. The garden, located at 164 E. The Emmaus Lioness Lions Club will hold its annual basket party April 19 at the Agri-Plex at the Allentown Fairgrounds. This is the 19th year the club has hosted the party. Doors open 4 p.m. and drawings begin 7 p.m. There is an admission charge. Proceeds benefit a variety of charities. All attendees who bring a can of food receive an extra ticket. The Emmaus Senior Citizens group meets 1 p.m. every Friday at St. Matthews’s E.C. Church, Fifth and Ridge streets. All area senior citizens are welcome to attend. The April programs are April 7: musical entertainment; April 14: musician Al Shade; April 21: a film and April 28 is game day.
The Woman’s Club of Emmaus will hold its spring card party, 11:30 a.m. April 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. The public is invited to attend. There is a cost. The Shelter House Society will host its annual Patriot’s Day dinner, 6:30 p.m. April 22 at the Emmaus Citizen’s Fire Co. #2, Pennsylvania Avenue and 10th St. Parking and handicap entrance is located in the rear. The program features retired educator Ken Biles who will present a talk on “Native American Life.” Biles, a member of the John Schrader Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology, will discuss how Native Americans lived. The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will hold its 19th Annual Used Book Sale 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. April 29 at Lower Macungie Middle School, 6229 Lower Macungie Road. The sale features 16,000+ books sorted by category. Prices start at 50 cents. A brown bag blow-out is set for 3 to 3:45 p.m.
All the book clubs and story times for children and youth continue at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., during April. The monthly program for the Emmaus Historical Society’s April 19 meeting is “Rhoads Opera House Fire in Boyertown.” Lindsay Dierolf tells the story of the Jan. 13, 1908 fire that tragically took 170 lives. She will bring props and photos of the event. The program begins 7 p.m. and is held at St. John’s Lutheran Church parish hall, Fifth and Chestnut streets.

The Emmaus Historical Society will hold a yard sale during the borough’s June 3 community-wide yard sale. The society welcomes donations for the sale.
