Lehigh County is in the process of writing a new county livable landscapes plan.

According to Lehigh Valley Planning Commission Executive Director Becky Bradley, 18 individuals were present at the Feb. 7 meeting in which the planning commission was provided feedback on issues, while discussing the county’s future vision.

She said one of the primary, universal concerns was not enough people in and around the county know about the wide variety of parks, recreational facilities and open spaces available.

“There was a collective recognition that building awareness of the variety, quality and close proximity to residents should be a goal of the plan,” Bradley said.

Bradley said input received indicated people value the open space, viewsheds, ease of access to parks and overall quality of life in the county.

“They feel this is one of key strengths of the area and key to supporting healthy lifestyles,” she said.

In addition, she also said historic buildings and neighborhoods were noted as offering a sense of place and economic health.

Also, the variety of farming afforded was noted as a strength within the county.

“There is a clear desire to support farming and farmers and grow these industries, as well as, protect key farmlands within the county for future use,” she said.

The LVPC, Bradley noted, plans on completing the comprehensive strategy for parks, recreation facilities, open space, farmland and the agricultural economy, as well as, historic and cultural resources by June of this year.
