SALISBURY HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE

Who doesn’t love a great musical comedy with their favorite characters of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Sally and Schroeder?

Salisbury High School Theatre plans to entertain audiences with “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” 7 p.m. March 9, 10 and 11. A special afternoon show will be given 3 p.m. March 12.

All performances will be at Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St., Allentown,

The play, music and lyrics were written by Clark Gesner based on cartoonist Charles M. Schulz’s beloved Peanuts characters.

The show opened in 1967 in New York and played for 1,597 performances. The show received an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Production in 1967 and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical in 1999.

The audience will find familiar scenes with Snoopy and the doghouse and Lucy’s booth where psychiatric help is available for 5 cents and a sign signifying if “The Doctor is In.”

Members of the cast include senior David Eckhart as Charlie Brown, Sophie Ravenelle as Snoopy, senior Joey Robert as Schroeder, senior Scheccid Alayola as Lucy Van Pelt, junior Owen Mendes as Linus Van Pelt and senior Jessette Long as Sally Brown. Additional members of the crew include Rebecca Aungst, Padraig Shay, Kobe McCloud, Shayna Trinidad, Johnny Nguyen, Jessica Nguyen, Melissa Do, Ryann Thomson, Jenna Sartorius, Brogan Shay, Khyra Heiney, Duncan Yankovich and Phakinee (Best) Sirivoravit.

The play is directed by Will Windsor Erwin.

“Charlie Brown has brought joy to people young and old through comics, movies and more since the 1950s. He’s the poster child for bumbles, fumbles and crazy mishaps. Yet through it all, Charlie Brown has proven he is indeed a good young man. He’s diligent, optimistic and honest. He’s kind, caring and brave. Most of all, he’s an underdog who never gives up. He has the ability to keep going even when the odds are against him and is able to start and end the day in happiness,” Erwin said.

“Many of our students embody this spirit. With the countless pressures, the complicated pushes and pulls of their lives as students, actors, crew members and young people, they too persevere and seek happiness. They have faced fears, pushed to better themselves and collaborated in such a beautiful way. They have bettered themselves in ways they haven’t realized yet.”

Nina Elias is the music director and conductor, Cherie Pennella is the production assistant, Kirsten Almeida is the choreographer, Chris West in the technical director, Scott Ross is the lighting director and Salisbury 2016 graduate Olivia King is the scenic painter.

“I’m excited for the show,” Robert said. “It’s a phenomenal show. Everything about it is goofy, funny and hopeful. It is sad though, because it is my last show.”

This is the eighth Salisbury show for Long. “I can’t believe it’s my last one. I’m going to miss everything about it!” Long also said the cast of this show has really worked well together.

“This is one of those shows where it takes everyone getting along and having fun to really make it come to life. I think this cast really does this. A lot of us have been working together in other shows for a long time so it’s great to get to do it one last time in such a fun show,” Long said.

“I think people will enjoy seeing all the best moments from the loved Peanuts cartoons. The funny scenes and great music all together add to one great show that everyone of all ages will love,” Alayola said.

“I think that a lot of people not only grew up with Charlie Brown and his friends, but that they can really connect with everything that happens throughout the show. I would encourage people to come and enjoy themselves, have a laugh, feel some emotions and just get away from their everyday lives for an hour or two,” Eckhart said. Although sad this is his last show at Salisbury, he is hopeful.

“I know my life lies before me and there’s so much to look forward to. I’ll be taking all the lessons I’ve learned along with me and I can’t thank the people around me enough for what they’ve done,” Eckhart said.
