RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Recreation Advisory Committee for Salisbury Township met Feb. 27 and held elections for chairperson, vice chairperson and secretary.

Mark Wilson was elected chairperson, Frank Adamcik was elected vice chairperson and Pat Jacoby was elected secretary.

Member Frank McCullough remains as a committee member.

There was discussion on replacing member Antonella DiMatteo who has accepted a job in another state. Salisbury Recreation Director Genny Baillie will talk to commissioners to see if the opening is in Ward 2 or Ward 3 since the wards recently changed. The replacement will need to be nominated by a commissioner. Any residents interested in filling the position should contact Baillie at 610-797-4000.

In advisor reports, Adamcik reported there are branches down in the parks due to recent storms. Adamcik also reported those walking their dogs at Franko Park are not cleaning up after their animals.

McCullough said residents are still walking at Lindberg Park and people are enjoying the recent changes. McCullough also commended the public works department for doing a “terrific job on the leaves.”

McCullough did have concerns about people driving through the stop signs at Green Acres Drive and Andrea Drive. He said a sidewalk is needed in that area.

“The idea is to keep people from walking in the street,” McCullough said. “It is not safe.”

McCullough also asked for an additional bike rack by the basketball court at Green Acres Park due to the increased activity.

Baillie reported the township received money from the Transportation Alternatives Program from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to install a sidewalk along Flexer Avenue and Lindberg Drive as part of the Share the Road Lane to connect Green Acres to Lindberg.

Baillie also reported commissioners recently accepted the final plans for the Laubach Park and Franko Farm Park master plan. This will allow the township to move forward with the hydrology study.

Applications are being accepted for the Summer 2017 Playground Program counselors.

The township egg hunt is planned for 10 a.m. April 8 at Lindberg Park. Committee members will meet early to place the 1,000 eggs throughout the park.

In new business, the Salisbury Youth Association is seeking permission to install a 70 foot by 14 foot batting cage at Franko Farm Park. Because the proposed location is not the same as the recently approved final design of the Franko master site plan, SYA engaged the services of Urban Research and Development for an alternate site.

The recreation committee reviewed the plans for the batting cage which could be moved if necessary. SYA is completely funding the cage.

The committee will send a letter to commissioners asking for this to be discussed at the March 9 workshop. The committee had reservations not about the cage but about the placement in the proximity to other activities.

The next meeting of the Recreation Advisory Committee will be 7:30 p.m. March 20 in the township municipal building.
