EMMAUS BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Emmaus Borough Council held a brief meeting March 6.

Council passed Resolution 2017-10 which will allow the borough to sell some old computer equipment from the police department. The man purchasing the equipment is the department’s information technology professional.

Borough Manager Shane Pepe said normally they never sell old servers and would just destroy the equipment and place it in the electronic recycling bin.

Sergeant Jason Apgar will be in charge of clearing the computers as Pepe says he is “more than capable of making sure it’s all gone.” The servers will be completely reformatted with no software programs remaining.

Councilman Chris DeFrain questioned whether or not it’s safe to give the man the old police computer servers because “everywhere you read there are ways to recover stuff.”

“The nice thing about Detective Apgar is that he has a master’s degree in forensic science,” Pepe said. “He’s the guy that finds that stuff for a living, he will make sure that it’s all gone.”

In other business, Switchback Pizza plans on donating six to eight ornamental cherry trees to be planted on Jubilee Street in front of the public parking spots.

Council approved the third annual Funk 5-miler to be held 11 a.m. June 10.

Also discussed during the meeting was the removal of Pamela Miller from the board of health. According to Councilman Jeff Shubzda, Miller missed 50 percent of meetings in 2015 and has not attended any meetings since.

Miller has been contacted multiple times by the board with no response, including phone calls, emails and certified letters from the borough manager. Shubzda said Miller’s phone number was a dead line.

The borough sent out a final letter saying they need to receive a response from her by March 3, which they never received.

When asked about the bylaws in removing a board member, Borough Solicitor Jeffery Dimmich stated “The general rule is anyone you appoint you may remove at will.” Dimmich said there are exceptions such as staggered terms.

Pepe said at this point they need to fill the board as they are having trouble making quorums, Miller’s absence being part of the reason.

Council voted 7-0 in favor of removing Miller from the board of health.
