The District 11 swimming championships were held Friday and Saturday. Champions in each event earned automatic qualification for the state meet, which will be held March 15-18 at Bucknell University.

The following is a recap of district champions from Lehigh Valley Press area teams, including a few district record-breakers. For more about the meet see this week’s issues of the Press.

Class 3A

The Parkland girls and Emmaus boys teams won district titles with both teams scoring 401 points for the team gold.

Hornet senior Ethan Carr grabbed the individual medley gold medal with a District 11 meet record time of 1:53.02, eclipsing the mark set by former teammate Carter Paules (1:53.24) in 2015. Carr also took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.05.

Teammate and fellow senior Connor DeJohn won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.56.

Emmaus sophomore Chelsea Gravereaux earned four gold medal each at districts as the Hornet girls team took second place overall with 385 points.

Gravereaux won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.79 and the 100 freestyle in 52.16 seconds.

The Hornet girls won the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Gravereaux, sophomore Abby Heilenman, senior Marissa Decker and sophomore Katie Champagne swam the event in 1:38.13. An all-sophomore Emmaus team won the girls 400 free relay as Champagne, Reilly King, Heilenman and Gravereaux swam the event in 3:33.28.

Champagne also won the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.41 seconds.

The Liberty boys team swept the three relays at districts en route to a third-place finish with 291 points.

The Hurricane 200 medley relay took first place with a time of 1:34.85. Juniors Jase Smith, Christopher Chambers and Robert Negron teamed up with sophomore Jake Evert for the gold medal. Senior Anthony Delcorso teamed up with Smith, Evert and Negron for the victory. Liberty seniors Ben Stuckey and junior Chase Ledger teamed up with Every and Negron to take first place in the 400 free relay in 3:10.33.

Negron, the district record holder in the 50 freestyle (20.53 in 2016), won that event with a time of 20.99 this year.

Hurricane senior Julia McCarthy earned a pair of gold medals at districts winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.23 and taking the breaststroke in 1:05.57. Liberty’s girls team finished third (338).

Freedom sophomore Al Bell won the boys 500 freestyle with a time of 4:45.94 as the Freedom boys and girls team both finished in sixth place overall.

Parkland senior Mathew Engler won the boys 100 butterfly with a time of 51.56 seconds, while teammate James Connolly, a junior, took first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.23. Parkland’s boys team took second place with 308.5 points.

Trojan junior Zoe Sheridan was the only first-place finisher for district champion Parkland girls team at this weekend’s swim meet. She won the girls 500 freestyle in 5:07.24.

Parkland girls opened the meet with a lead as diver Lexi Lehman took first place a week earlier in front of three of her teammates as the Trojans took the top four places.

Northampton’s Michale Bauer won the boys 100 freestyle with a time of 46.14 seconds.

Class 2A

Salisbury

Salisbury’s 200 medley relay (Daniel Bonge, AJ Oliver, Mahlon Reihman, Ben Wiener) set a district record at 1:38.16. The same Falcon foursome capped the meet with a gold medal in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:13.79, which was .13 seconds off the district record time Reihman helped set in 2014.

Reihman won the 200 freestyle in 1:41.25, just .20 seconds off his record time from last year. He also took first place in the 100 free in 46.24.

Bonge took first place in the 100 butterfly in 50.48 seconds.

Salisbury’s Tyler Keller took first place in last week’s diving competition.

The Falcon boys team finished third as a team with 273 points, just behind Blue Mountain (273.5) and district champion Central Catholic (365).

Salisbury’s girls team finished seventh in the meet. Sarah Bobeck won the girls 500 freestyle in 5:20.15.
