Mozart in the afternoon for PSO concert series

Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, directed by Music Conductor Allan Birney, presents “An Afternoon with Mozart,” 4 p.m. March 5, Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 W. Hamilton St., Allentown.

The All-Mozart concert on a March afternoon has become an anticipated part on the annual Sinfonia season. The program highlights the work of just one genius composer, but includes a breadth of emotions conveyed by strings and winds. From the pen of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart come works that are in turn playful, introspective and energetic.

The program includes the Symphony No. 41 in C, K. 551 “Jupiter”: Symphony No. 1 in E Flat Major, K. 16 and Serenade No. 6, K. 239 “Serenata Notturna.”

The soloist for a pair of single movement works for violin and orchestra (an Adagio and a Rondo) is Mary Ogletree, who will perform along with an ensemble of 24 Sinfonia colleagues.

Ogletree, Concertmaster of the Sinfonia for 27 years, is a frequent soloist for “Valley Vivaldi,” the group’s summer chamber series. She performs with the Bach Festival Orchestra and Satori.

Ogletree, a Professor of Violin at Kutztown University, received a Doctor of Music Arts from the University of Kentucky.

Tickets, at the door; or in advance; PASinfonia.org; 610-434-7811. Students are free. A limited number of economy tickets for any age is available if ordered by phone on Friday before the concert.
