A Lower Macungie Township man was fatally injured when his vehicle struck a tree on Kings Highway South, near Janes Lane, in Lower Milford Township, Feb. 21.
Byron Lee Shoemaker, 65, of the 3700 block of Devonshire Road was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Health Network, Salisbury Township, at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office. Shoemaker was transported to the hospital by Macungie EMS following the crash.
An autopsy was scheduled Feb. 22 to determine an exact cause of death.
In a telephone message to The Press, Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim stated Shoemaker suffered cardiac issues. Grim ruled the cause of death as natural.
According to police, Shoemaker was the operator of a 2015 Lincoln SUV headed north when the vehicle veered across the southbound lane and struck a tree in a head on collision. The vehicle came to a final rest with its front end against the tree, facing north on the western berm of Kings Highway South.
Lower Milford and East Greenville fire personnel also responded to the crash scene.
Diamone Yulonda Ruth Bowens, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was taken into custody and charged with alleged forgery, theft and false identification to law enforcement after an incident at Kohl’s department store, 6900 Hamilton Blvd., Lower Macungie Township, 5:29 p.m. Feb. 7. According to police, Bowens allegedly used fraudulent information to register for a credit account at the store. She then allegedly made approximately $1,000 in purchases there. Bowens also allegedly had a fraudulent driver’s license. Charges were filed, according to court records.
