District basketball roundup: Parkland, Northampton girls advance; ENS stuns Zephs

The District 11 basketball quarterfinal rounds got under way Thursday and will continue through Saturday. Here’s a look at how the Class 5A boys and 6A girls games unfolded.

BOYS BASKETBALL

East Stroudsburg North-Whitehall

The No. 6 seed Timberwolves knocked off No. 3 Whitehall, 52-50 in a Class 5A quarterfinal.

The Timberwolves, which upset top-seeded Emmaus in the league playoffs, saw just four players score and only three players with more than two points in the game, led Devantae Wiggins (19 points), Arian Azemi (16) and Darin Bellinger (15).

Logan McGiley scored 11 points for Whitehall and Kayden Walschburger had nine for the Zephyrs in the season-ending loss.

The Timberwolves will take on No. 7 seed Central Catholic in Monday’s semifinals at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Valley. The Vikings beat No. 2 seed Blue Mountain 51-48 Thursday. The other semifinal pits top-seeded Bangor against Pottsville. The Slaters had a first-round bye, while the No. 4 seed Crimson Tide beat No. 5 Southern Lehigh 45-43 in a quarterfinal game.

The semifinal games will determine District 11’s state playoff teams in boys Class 5A as only two teams advance to the PIAA bracket.
