LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

There was a discussion of a Seem Road property at the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners Feb. 16 meeting.

The property on Seem Road, currently owned by an elderly woman, will be purchased by Lower Macungie Township. The family wants the township to purchase the property which includes a house not in good condition. It was said the property is a good purchase for the township as it will allow for connection of the walking trail in this area. The purchase price will be about $65,000 with proper survey and deed. The purchase was approved.

It was announced there will be 724 properties in the township this year that do not have to pay property taxes due to Homestead Exclusion act.

The new recycling bins will be arriving and distribution is set to begin soon. These bins will be picked up by an automated arm. It is important residents follow the directions as to how to place the bins because this will all be automated.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation sent a letter to the township regarding the request for brake retarder prohibition along Trexlertown and Spring Creek roads. PennDOT agrees with the township’s request for not using brake retarders in these areas. The township will move forward with the acquiring of signs.

Bidding for the emergency repairs will begin for the Macungie Road bridge.

The township will acquire the Mengel property for $14,140. A shed is on the property the current owners will have use of the shed for now. An easement will be established to be used as a driveway to the Kratzer Farm.

The zoning hearing board held 25 hearings during 2016. Seven of these hearings were for residential properties. Eleven were commercial including Smooth-On, Anthony properties, Mack Trucks, Trexler Business Center, Allentown Audi and Signature Personal Care.
