The Emmaus Police Department said at 9:20 a.m. Feb. 15, a male entered the KeyBank, 731 Chestnut St. and demanded money while displaying a handgun. The male left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a vehicle which was spotted by Emmaus Police on Lehigh Street near 33rd Street, SW.
When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled north on Lehigh Street then onto Interstate 78 eastbound and Route 309 southbound.
The pursuit ended in Upper Saucon Township after a State Police Trooper used an intervention technique with his State Police vehicle.
Taken into custody was John Cruz, 41, of Allentown. Cruz is facing the following charges: 1 count of armed robbery, three counts of simple assault, three counts of terroristic threats and one count of theft and receiving stolen property. The getaway vehicle, allegedly driven by Cruz, was found to be stolen from Fountain Hill earlier Feb. 15. Additional charges related to the stolen vehicle are pending investigation by the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force.
