There will be a “Cherries, Chocolate and Jazz” event 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 25 (snowdate Feb. 26) at the Lower Macungie Township Library. Appetizers, desserts and beverages will be provided with music by the Kutztown University Jazz Quartet. Tickets (adults only) can be purchased online at lowermaclib.org, at the library, or by mailing a check payable to Lower Macungie Library, 3450 Brookside Road, Macungie, 18062. Tickets are not available at the door. Proceeds benefit the library.
The library is now accepting book donations for the spring book sale at the donations counter to the left of the information desk. Acceptable donations include gently used books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks on CDs. Unacceptable items include damaged, dirty or incomplete items, magazines, newspapers, textbooks, encyclopedias and Reader’s Digest condensed books.
There will be a teen movie afternoon for students in grades six through 12, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 17. The movie will be “The Muppets” and snacks and drinks will be provided.
The Teen Advisory Board will meet immediately after the movie. Walk-ins are welcome, space permitting.
In honor of the return of the PBS series “Mercy Street,” the library welcomes Maureen Costello who will present a one woman re-enactment of Clara Barton 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 18. Learn how Barton, a pioneering nurse during the Civil War, founded the Red Cross.
Library League – a monthly program for students in grades three to five – meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27. The programs include a story, exploration and problem-solving.
There will be a family storytime for children of all ages 6:30 to 7 p.m. March 6.
Creation Station will meet 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 11. Creation Station is in the children’s area and offers supplies for a special craft or activity as well as books with ideas that support the monthly theme.
Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Seuss-tastic Saturday with stories, crafts and games for the whole family 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 4. Dress up as your favorite character and bring your camera for pictures with the cat.
The library now offers Rosetta Stone Library Solution which includes access to 30 languages. Mobile apps are also available.

The Friends of the Library will have their next meeting 10 a.m. March 18 in the library. The Friends sort used books 8:30 to 10 a.m. every Thursday morning. Volunteers are welcome.
Concordia Lutheran Church will host a Shrove Tuesday all-you-can-eat pancake dinner 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 28 in the fellowship hall on the lower level. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, doughnuts, fruit and beverages will be available. A freewill offering will be accepted. Everyone is invited. The church is located at 2623 Brookside Road. The Ancient Oak Women’s Organization will not meet at St. Paul’s in March. Instead there will be a movie night March 1 at Emmaus Theatre followed by dessert at a nearby restaurant.
The Ancient Oak Women’s Organization will sell hoagies in March with delivery the second week of March.
There will be a Magic and Illusion Show with Tom Yurasits 2 to 2:45 p.m. March 18 at the Lower Macungie Community Center.
The Emmaus High School Drama Department will present “Miss Saigon: School Edition” 7 p.m. March 15, 16, 17 and 18 and 2 p.m. March 18 and 19. There will be a Gold Card preview performance 6 p.m. March 14. The Gold Card serves as your ticket. Online ticket sales have begun. Tickets can also be purchased at the EHS main office lobby 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday when school is in session beginning Feb. 22. Telephone orders will not be taken through the main office.

Lower Macungie Middle School will present the musical “Me and My Girl” March 30, 31 and April 1.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue and at Camp Olympic. Those who rented plots last year can now renew their plot rental for 2017 through Feb. 28. Starting March 1, plots are available to rent on a first-come, first-serve basis. Contact the community center for more information.
AARP will offer two sessions of Safe Driving for Mature Drivers: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 28 and 30; and 5 to 9 p.m. April 25 and 27. AARP will also offer a refresher class for safe drivers 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 11 or 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 11.
The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Feb. 20, March 6 and 20 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.
The community center offers a number of activities. Programs for the winter include Latin partner dance classes, Zumba, guided meditation/relaxation, Tai Chi, chair yoga, card making classes, Pilates and Cize Live. Children’s programs include Kindermusik, Toddlers and Tutus and Soccer-Mommy/Daddy and Me.

A safe sitter program will be offered 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25.
Family open gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.
Yard waste site hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The center is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Yard waste permits are now required for drop-off. Applications can be found at www.lowermac.com. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.
The Emmaus Lions Club is holding a “Night at the Races” and basket raffle starting 6:30 p.m. (doors open 5 p.m.) March 11 at the Alburtis Area Community Center.
