On Jan. 27, six buses carrying almost 300 Allentown Central Catholic High School students traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the annual March for Life.
The buses first stopped in Maryland at the Baltimore Basilica to celebrate Mass with others from the Diocese of Allentown, including students from Berks Catholic High School, Notre Dame High School and Holy Guardian Angel parish. The trip continued to the Washington Monument, where ACCHS students joined hundreds of thousands in a march to the steps of the Supreme Court.
The March for Life calls for the protection and safeguarding of all human life, from conception to natural death, and takes place every January following the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
Catholic Schools Week took place Jan. 31 to Feb. 3 and was celebrated in a variety of ways at Central Catholic.
Monday featured students sporting jerseys for their favorite teams and Tuesday’s student appreciation day meant a general dress down day, ice cream at lunch and no homework. Wednesday was faculty appreciation day and also a patriotic dress down day.
Catholic Schools Week Mass was held on Thursday, or “dress-up” day. Finally, Friday concluded the week with color day and a pep rally.
Students planning to try out for spring sports are required to take a 30-minute baseline concussion test in the Media Center. Test dates for track and field are Feb. 13; softball, baseball and boys tennis, Feb. 21; and girls/boys lacrosse Feb. 28.
