Varsity Roundup: Tigers end season with win over Rough Riders
BOYS BASKETBALL
Catasauqua-Northwestern
The Tigers beat Catasauqua 77-73 on a three-pointer by Ryan Hippensteel with 6.8 seconds left in the game.
Hippensteel, a senior playing in his final high school game, scored a career-high 13 points in the game, while teammate Rob Seyfried had 29 and Sam Yadush and Trevor Cunningham added 12 points apiece for Northwestern (8-14 overall, 6-12 Colonial League).
Catasauqua (8-13, 8-10) was led by Isaiah Graves with 27 points.
Southern Lehigh-Salisbury
The Falcons outscored Southern Lehigh 70-60.
Salisbury got 54 points from two players as Jaxon Costello put up a 32 points and Jack Reichenbach added 22 points to avenge an early-season loss to the Spartans.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Salisbury-Southern Lehigh
The Spartans extended their league record win streak with a 67-30 drubbing of Salisbury.
Michaela Miller scored 14 points for Southern Lehigh.
Caylin Meikrantz had 13 points for Salisbury.
Northwestern-Catasauqua
Northwestern cruised to a 54-27 win over the Rough Riders.
Leighanna Lister scored 13 points to lead the Tigers, who held a 27-10 advantage at halftime. Paige Stitzel added 11 points.

Liberty-Emmaus
The Hornets swept Liberty, winning 105-80 in the girls meet and 104-76 in boys events.
Event winners for the Emmaus girls team were Chelsea Gravereaux (200 freestyle, butterfly), Katie Champagne (individual medley, backstroke), Abby Heilenman (50 freestyle), Reilly King (500 freestyle), the medley relay team (Katie Champagne, Lydia Garton, Chelsea Gravereaux, Marissa Decker), the 200 freestyle relay team (Chelsea Gravereaux, Marissa Decker, Abby Heilenman, Reilly King) and the 400 freestyle relay team (Abby Heilenman, Kaitlin Hur, Reilly King, Katie Champagne).
Emmaus boys event winners include Connor DeJohn (200 freestyle), Ethan Carr (individual medley, backstroke), Andrew Vanim (diving), Ricky Thomas (butterfly), Michael Brennan (500 freestyle), the medley relay team (Jason Yerger, Cooper Kocon, Ethan Carr, Andrew Vanim) and the 200 freestyle relay team (Ethan Carr, Connor DeJohn, Andrew Vanim, Ricky Thomas).
Liberty event winners were Cara Kuykens (diving) and Julia McCarthy (breaststroke) on the girls’ side and Jake Evert (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Chrstopher Chambers (breaststroke) and the 400 freestyle relay team (Chase Ledger, Omar Mohamed, Christopher Chambers, Jake Evert) on the boys’ side.
Pocono Mountain East-Northampton
The Konkrete Kids swept Pocono Mountain East 102-78 in the girls meet and 105-68 in the girls meet.
Individual event winners for Northampton in the girls meet were Brynne Rockovits (individual medley), Jadyn Fehnel (diving), Nicole Somers (500 freestyle), Larisa Calvo (100 freestyle) and Morgan Fehnel (breaststroke). Northampton also won the medley relay (Brynne Rockovits, Morgan Fehnel, Rebecca Nothstein, Alexis Frey).
Boys winners for the Kids were Gavyn Frankenfield (individual medley), Michael Bauer (50 freestyle, butterfly), Isaac Walton (diving), John Kennedy (500 freestyle), Dominick Fragano (backstroke), the medley relay (Gavyn Frankenfield, Jared Iasiello, Michael Bauer, Jarin Gaumer), the 200 freestyle medley team (Dominick Fragano, John Kennedy, Jared Iasiello, Joshua Millan) and the 400 freestyle relay (Michael Bauer, John Kennedy, Joshua Millan, Gavyn Frankenfield) team.
WRESTLING
Palmerton-Whitehall
The Zephyrs beat Palmerton 48-21.
Whitehall won nine consecutive bouts, getting pins from Jaden Youwakim, Noah Rex and Kai Clark. Caleb Staub earned a win by technical fall, Nikitas Davis won by major decision, while Izak Bright earned a win by decision. Marino Collazo, Luke Rex, Jovany Belman won by forfeit for the Zephs.
RIFLE
East Stroudsburg North-Emmaus
The Hornets beat East Stroudsburg North in a Northester Pennsvylvania Rifle League playoff match.
The top-seeded Hornets scored 970 to the Timberwolves’ 941.
Emmaus was led by Alex Baksa with 198 and Jessica Licker with a 194. Teammates Amber Ziegler (193), Sydney Jones (193) and Tucker Danish (192) also competed in the match.
