Whitehall-Coplay School Board discussed revisions to some of its policies at its committee meetings Jan. 23.
The policies to be looked at for the first reading include English as a Second Language/bilingual education program, tutoring, Title I parental involvement, screening for students with disabilities, parental/family involvement and performance assessment of superintendent/assistant superintendent.
According to Whitehall-Coplay School District Superintendent Dr. Lorie Hackett, the wording of the policies will be changed, but no major changes will occur.
“The policies are to be tweaked and updated,” Hackett told board members. “If it is something significant, we will go over it in detail.”
Hackett informed the board that all the policies are available on the district’s website, whitehallcoplay.org.
In other business, Michael Malay, WCSD business manager, presented the board with the district’s tax collector compensation plans.
According to Malay, the district will give a 2-percent raise in the first year to the tax collectors. The rate will then remain the same for the next three years of the four-year contract.
“There hasn’t been a raise since 2011,” Malay said.
He explained that since the school district includes both Whitehall Township and Coplay Borough, the payments go to two different tax collectors.
Malay presented the board with the timeline for the 2017-18 budget. The district is expected to adopt the proposed final budget May 8 and adopt the final budget June 12.
