A parent information night for students’ transition from eighth grade to ninth grade is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Whitehall-Coplay Middle School.

Report cards will be sent home Feb. 3. Please discuss any concerns you may have with your child and your child’s teacher.

Student Council’s annual carnation sale at the middle school begins Feb. 6 and runs through Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day. Students will have the opportunity to purchase carnations for special friends, staff members and even family.

Schools will be closed Feb. 17 and 20 for the Presidents Day holiday.

Whitehall-Coplay School District believes daily attendance in school is an extremely important factor in children’s success in their educational experience. The Pennsylvania Department of Education is monitoring attendance records in all of its school districts.

Doctor appointments should be planned after the school day.

Parents or guardians must provide a written note within three days upon returning to school after an absence. The best method is to write a note promptly on the day of return. Remember to include the date, child’s name, teacher’s name, a specific reason for the absence and signature.

If no excuse note is received within this three-day period, it is considered an illegal absence. When there are three or more illegal days without notes, parents or guardians will be required to appear before the Whitehall magisterial district judge on truancy charges. This is a school district policy.

Parents should plan vacation and travel time over the holidays or during periods when classes are not in session. If your family plans on taking a trip during school, a special form - available in the office - must be completed and returned to the office prior to the trip. Educational trips are limited to seven school days per year. Any days missed seven days will be considered illegal if the student’s age is 16 or younger. Please complete the form prior to travel.

Address and contact changes are important. Please keep the school offices informed of any changes that may occur during the year. If there is a move within WCSD, provide a new proof of residence.
