B-I-N-G-O benefits Dream Come True, Blue Ridge Chapter

The bingo fundraiser for Dream Come True, Blue Ridge Chapter, was the idea of Wendy Borger who was looking for a different way of raising money.

The third year for the event was held Jan. 22 at Friedens Fire Company, Washington Township.

Borger, fleet administrator for Pencor’s Service Center, Aquashicola, is on the board of Dream Come True, an organization that fulfills the fondest dream of seriously or chronically ill children.

A major fundraiser, in addition to the bingo, is the annual telethon at Penn’s Peak entertainment venue, Jim Thorpe, in the fall.

For those who have had a “dream come true,” there are scholarships available for students enrolled in higher education whether it is a college or trade school.

Some 102 bingo aficianados, the largest group ever to participate, were enjoying the bingo with prizes from Borger, a vendor for Tupperware.

Brenda Lang provided Scentsy, electric candles with wax on top that melts with the heat of the electric light and leaves the scent of real candles without the dangers of a flame.

Cherylann Haas donated “31” purses, bags and accessories. She said it was her first year helping out.

Dawn Dawson was the bingo caller.

There was a 50-50 drawing with $150 in the pot during the first break when people headed to the fire company’s food stand.

Many businesses and individuals made donations to a basket raffle presided over by Eileen Thompson.

Friedens Fire Hall has been renovated with bright new paint on the walls, but the biggest change was the floor.

The hall was closed for a month as work was done and the floor was scrubbed, sanded, coated with polyurethane, sprinkled with specks of color and then seal coated.

Between each step time was needed for the prior one to cure.
