The Northampton wrestling team fell to Nazareth in a big EPC rivalry matchup on Thursday night in Northampton.
The match got started at heavyweight where the Eagles Mohamed Tounkara won a 6-2 decision over Alex Darabaris.
At 106, the Kids Sam Hanley won 6-4 to tie things up at 3-3. But the Eagles would go up 12-3 after a Sean Pierson decision at 113 and a Ryan O’Grady pin at 120 led into the heart of the Kids order.
Defending state champ Julian Chelbove won 7-2 at 126 followed by a K.J. Fenstermacher pin in 1:36 at 132. Dan Moran followed with a tech fall, 18-3 victory at 138 and that string gave the Kids a 17-12 advantage.
Nazareth’s Sammy Sasso would answer the Kids run with a 20-5, tech fall at 145 to ties things at 17-17.
Northampton looked like it might have momentum after Michael Kistler scored an 11-3 major decision at 152 to give his team a 21-17 lead, but back would come the Eagles as Brock Wilson earned a win by fall to put the Eagles on top 23-21 after the 160 bout.
Cade Moisey would put the Kids back on top, 24-23, with a 11-7 victory at 170, but it would be the last of the night for Northampton.
Cade Wilson’s 7-4 decision at 182 and Travis Stefanik’s pin at 195 put away the match before the Eagles Tucker Klump closed things out at 220 with a 3-1 victory.
