Ladies auxiliary makes donation to humane society

Members of the ladies auxiliary of Salisbury Fire Company #1, 1226 Marlow St., made several trips through the doors of the Lehigh County Humane Society, 640 Dixon St., Allentown, Jan. 11 to deliver bags of donated pet necessities.

The donations were the result of a Christmas tree placed in the fire company filled with cut-outs of old Christmas cards with needed items for the humane society. Blank envelopes were also on the tree for monetary donations.

As a result, food, cat litter, toys and more, as well as checks totaling $330 were presented to Lehigh County Humane Society President John Solt, of Bethlehem and Vice President Bethany Mihalik, of South Whitehall.

“We are very grateful,” Solt said. “We really appreciate these donations. We invite you to stop by at anytime.”

“The animals appreciate the donations more than we ever could,” Mihalik said. “We have 100 dogs and 150 cats waiting for a forever home. We are always looking for volunteers and donations.”

Mihalik said Scout groups, school groups and individuals are always needed as dog walkers, cat socialization and clerical work.

“We would like to thank our 400 members for their donations and support in our fundraiser,” ladies auxiliary president Julî D’Ancona said.

“We raise money throughout the year for our Easter and Christmas parties for the members’ children,” D’Ancona said.

Fundraisers include a chili cook-off, spaghetti dinner, hoagie sales, meat raffles and pizza sales and proceeds are used to support the Salisbury community.

D’Ancona said the fire company is always looking for new members. For more information, email sfc1ladiesauxiliary@yahoo.com.
