Jakum to serve remainder of Rodney Schlauch’s term

A new supervisor was appointed to the Heidelberg Township board during the reorganization meeting Jan. 3.

A motion was made by board Chairman Steve Bachman and seconded by Supervisor David Fink to appoint Jonathan Jakum to serve the remainder of the term vacated by Rodney Schlauch Jr., who has not attended board meetings for several months.

Jakum has served on the township’s Environmental Advisory Council.

The board received a letter of resignation from Schlauch on Nov. 21, 2016. The letter did not state a reason for his departure.

Jakum will serve the remainder of Schlauch’s term ending Jan. 1, 2018.

The decision to appoint Jakum was made with much thought, according to Bachman and Fink.

“I talked to a lot of people,” Bachman said.

“I interviewed several people and I am in agreement,” Fink added.

In other reorganization matters, Bachman will remain chairman for 2017 with Fink appointed vice chairman.

Director of office operations position will be held by Jakum; director of public works by Fink; and the director of parks and recreation by Bachman.

Township Administrator/Secretary-Treasurer is Janice Meyers.

She is also the voting delegate to the 2017 PSATS Conference.

Dawn Didra was appointed part-time alternate zoning officer/office secretary.

Kevin Huber will remain roadmaster superintendent with two full-time employees, Travis Moyer and Jonathan Pasieka, and also part-timer Daniel Watt.

Steckel & Stopp retained its role as township solicitor with Keystone Consulting Engineers as township engineers.

Reappointments to the planning commission for a term of four years included Mark Steidinger, Sidney German, terms ending Dec. 31, 2020; and Brian Alnutt (to complete Schlauch’s term), and Dillon Turner (to complete term of the late Douglas Tietze) both ending Dec. 31, 2019.

A motion was made to set the employee pension contribution made by the township at 10 percent of annual regular wages for full-time employees during 2016.

The regular supervisors’ meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19.
