Board fills positions

Washington Township supervisor began their Jan. 3 meeting with the appointment of Lynne Fedorcha to the Slatington Public Library board.

They then adopted an ordinance which would have the township rather than the county review the affect of stormwater on erosion. With the township doing the review, Zoning Officer Todd Weidman said the process faster.

A resolution was presented to purchase preservation rights to farms. The two were from Harriet Herb, 93.56 acres at $1,730 per acre for a total of $161,858. The second was for Paul Bachman Jr. and senior, 92.7 acres at $2,060 per acre for a total of $190,962. Both want the land preserved rather than risk it going to a developer.

Chairman Josh Friebolin said the township does not have that much money on hand but was open to negotiations. A motion was made to reject the resolution.

Slatington Borough made a change for the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority. The new wording was accepted by Washington Township to make a change to the articles of incorporation making it a nonprofit.

A resolution was accepted to set the millage at 0.3 of 1 mill, a long-standing rate, Friebolin said.

Supervisors appointed Diane Conklin as part-time assistant secretary-treasurer and earned income tax officer. She will earn $17 per hour without benefits.

The board named Erin Stenger-Guth to replace JoAnn Ahner as secretary-treasurer. Ahner is resigning at the end of January.
