The East Penn School District is pleased to announce that Jefferson, Lincoln and Macungie elementary schools have been chosen as Title I Distinguished Schools by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the 2016-2017 School Year.
Title I is a 100 percent federally funded supplemental educational program providing financial assistance to local educational agencies to improve learning opportunities. Title I programs are designed to help children meet the state content and performance standards in reading, language arts, and mathematics.
Each year, the Division of Federal Programs honors the top performing Title I schools in Pennsylvania. This year, PDE used the approved ESEA Flexibility Waiver designation of reward. Reward schools are defined as the highest 5 percent of Title I schools in PA that meet at least two of the following criteria:
•Math and Reading PSSA scores
•Annual Measureable Objectives
•Math and English Language Arts Pennsylvania Value Added Assessment System data
•Attendance rates
PDE selected 179 Title I schools to be named Distinguished Schools based on the above criterion.
PDE, Division of Federal Programs, will honor Jefferson, Lincoln, and Macungie elementary schools at the 2017 Title I Improving Schools’ Performance Conference as a 2016-2017 Distinguished Title I School. All distinguished schools will be honored at the conference during the Distinguished Schools’ Award Ceremony 4 p.m. Jan. 30. The 2017 Title I Improving Schools’ Performance Conference will be held Jan. 29 through Feb. 1 at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh.
