LOWER MACUNGIE COLUMN
The Emmaus High School orchestra will host a coffeehouse 7 p.m. Jan. 20 in the cafeteria. A wide variety of musical entertainment will be provided by the students. Coffee, hot chocolate and desserts will be available for purchase. There is a cover charge. All proceeds benefit the orchestra department. The snow date is Feb. 3.
There will be “Cherries, Chocolate and Jazz” 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 25 (snowdate Feb. 26) at the Lower Macungie Township Library. Appetizers, desserts and beverages will be provided with music by the Kutztown University Jazz Quartet. Tickets (adults only) can be purchased online at lowermaclib.org under DONATE NOW; at the library or by mailing a check payable to Lower Macungie Library, 3450 Brookside Road, Macungie, 18062. Tickets will not be available at the door. Proceeds benefit the Lower Macungie Library.
The library is now accepting book donations for the spring 2017 book sale at the donations counter to the left of the information desk. Acceptable donations include gently used books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks on CDs. Unacceptable items include damaged, dirty or incomplete items, magazines, newspapers, textbooks, encyclopedias and Reader’s Digest condensed books.
There will be a drop by paper book art craft event 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25.
Celebrate National Puzzle Day Jan. 28 at the library. Stop by to work on a puzzle or try a puzzle-inspired craft anytime during the day.
There will be a Night of Gilmore Girls 7 to 7:45 p.m. Jan. 31. Activities include a trivia game about the show, crafts, food and coffee. Advance registration is required.
Library Explorers – a monthly program for students in first and second grades – meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan 23. Library League – a monthly program for students in third to fifth grades – meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30. The programs include a story, exploration and problem solving.
There will be a family story time for children of all ages 6:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6.
Creation Station will meet 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 11. Creation Station is in the children’s area and offers supplies for a special craft or activity as well as books with ideas that support the monthly theme.
The Teen Advisory Board meets 3:30 p.m. Jan. 20.
The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Feb. 1 to discuss “Circling the Sun” by Paula McClain. The book for March 1 will be “Dead Wake” by Erik Larson.
The Department of Health will offer a reduced/no cost flu vaccine clinic at the library 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 10.
The library offers “Book a Librarian” services for one on one help with using eReaders, downloading eBooks, tablets or computer programs such as Excel and Microsoft Word.
Class size is limited and sign-up is required for the above events.

The Friends of the Library will have their next meeting 10 a.m. Jan. 21 in the library. The agenda includes elections and a discussion on how to spend the money from the fall book sale.
The Ancient Oak Women’s Organization will meet to make Valentine’s Day cards 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at St. Paul’s UCC, 1249 Trexlertown Road, Trexlertown.
The winners of the Holiday House Decorating Contest are: first place – 1472 Butternut Lane; second place – 7051 Heather Road and third place –1469 Walnut Lane.
Concordia Lutheran Preschool will host a spaghetti dinner 4 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28. Reservations are recommended. The preschool and church are located on Brookside Road. Call the preschool at 610-965-3265 for reservations.
Concordia Lutheran Church will host a Shrove Tuesday all-you-can-eat pancake dinner 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 28 in the fellowship hall on the lower level. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, doughnuts, fruit, and beverages will be available. A freewill offering will be accepted. Everyone is invited. The church is located at 2623 Brookside Road. The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Feb. 6 and 20 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.
The Lower Macungie Township Community Center offers a number of activities. Programs for the winter include Latin Partner Dance classes, Zumba, guided meditation/relaxation, Tai Chi, chair yoga, card making classes, Pilates, and Cize Live. Children’s programs include Kindermusik, Toddlers and Tutus, and Soccer-Mommy/Daddy and Me.

A Safe Sitter Program will be offered 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25.
Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.
Yard waste site hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The center is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Yard waste permits are now required for dropoff. Applications can be found at www.lowermac.com. Be prepared to show your photo identification as proof of residency.
