Open house features wreaths, swags and pine cone holiday decorations

Piles of evergreens and boxes of decorative items and ribbons waited on the porch of the Osprey House at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, Slatington, as visitors came to make wreaths and swags.

They also could go inside for refreshments, where children could make crafts and the adults could make pine cone decorations.

Amber Breiner made grapevine bases for the wreaths from vines provided by Spring Mountain Farm.

She told wreath-makers to twist the first branches into the vine base as much as possible and build upon that.

There were five kinds of evergreens and holly so using a variety of evergreens could add interest to the wreaths.

Barb Egerton brought the greens, prunings from fall cleanup in her yard.

Among the decorations was a 3-inch tall birdhouse, with red roof, made of three-eighths inch thick logs.

Fritz and Belva Williams returned again this year playing music on instruments from the Middle Ages up through mountain music.
