Elizabeth R. “Betsy” Metzger, 86, formerly of Allentown died Jan. 2, 2017, in her residence in Luther Crest retirement community, South Whitehall.

She was the wife of the late Richard W. Metzger who died in October 2006.

Born in Kingston, Luzerne County, she was the daughter of the late George and Ruth (Turn) Reynolds.

She was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall.

She worked as an elementary teacher in Allentown for 28 years and as a supervisor of student teachers at Muhlenberg College.

She attended Wyoming Seminary, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State in education and a Master’s degree in guidance from Lehigh University.

She sang with the Bach Choir more than 34 years.

Her survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Eric Yeakel 11 a.m. Jan. 7 in Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown.

Call 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, South Whitehall.
