Weisenberg board deals with plans

With the absence of Chairman Bob Milot, Weisenberg Township Supervisors Linda Gorgas and Tom Wehr were entrusted with the duty of conducting the monthly board meeting.

First order of business was the granting of a time extension for the review of the Misty Glen Properties development.

The two supervisors agreed to extend the time to Dec. 31, 2017.

The Golden Key Travel Center land development plan was up next for review.

The developers, represented by Benchmark Engineering and Liberty Engineering, propose to raze the existing structure and combine that lot with two others.

A new 10,000-square-foot building would be erected.

There will be a conveniences store, fuel pumps and spaces for tractor trailers to park.

The business will be operated around the clock.

The board had concerns about the traffic flow and the size of the entrance.

They want the entrance on Arcadia Road to be reduced to deter usage by tractor trailers.

They were also concerned about the contribution to the traffic light fund.

The plan was eventually tabled until next month’s meeting.

The budget for 2017 was adopted with no tax increase.

Supervisors reorganization meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 3, 2017 with the auditors re-organizing at 7 p.m. Jan. 4, 2017.

Junkyard licenses were granted.

Walbert Contracting at 10176 Schoolhouse Road was granted a license for 2017 while C. Lick Jr. Salvage at 9575 Old 22 was granted a 90-day license.

Supervisors have some items they want to be addressed and will only grant the full year when these conditions are met.

Surveyor William Beitler was before the board to request that his client’s property be allowed to connect to the sewer system.

A single family dwelling is proposed at 2218 Apple Road.

Supervisors tabled the matter until it can be determined whether the property is in the sewer area.

Solicitor Don Lipson will look into this matter.

Weisenberg Fire Chief Brian Carl gave the fire company report.

Firefighters have received 184 calls so far this year.

The fire company will be looking to purchase another pickup truck in the near future.

Lipson told the board he had an ordinance to prohibit noise at certain times of the night.

Loud noises will not be allowed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The board will study the proposal.

Carl asked if the board wanted to raise the bond for the township treasurer, Jeff Strauss.

After some discussion, the bond was increased to $2.1 million.

Carl told the board he was approached by Allison Mackenzie of the Girl Scouts with a request they be allowed to set up a stand in the township parking lot to sell cookies.

The board thought this would be OK if they presented the township with a certificate of insurance.
