NORTH WHITEHALL Lions, Grangers give party for kids

Upper Lehigh Lions Club and Schnecksville Grange worked together to present a children’s Christmas party for clients of Agape and Christ’s Church at Lowhill food pantries.

Held in the grange hall on an early December Sunday, 34 children and 59 adults attended the party.

The grange, with members doing the cooking, contributed the meal of macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, ice cream, cookies and drinks.

Members of Parkland High School’s Leo Club wrapped presents and helped Santa distribute gifts.

Children were given candy canes and an orange in addition to the presents.

The party came to an enjoyable conclusion with a magic show by Mrs. Claus provided by the Lions Club.

Members of St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, are collecting food items for a program called Snack Pack Pals.

The church heard reports of children who get their only nutrition in school and have nothing to eat at home or on weekends and holidays.

Food items include macaroni and cheese, granola bars, cereal cups and microwaveable singles.

Church members have learned the situation is more common than people realize and want to help children who may not see this time of year as particularly fun and festive.

Children of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, are collecting change in animal banks for donation to Heifer International.

The organization provides animals which give food, such as chickens for their eggs, or cows for their milk, to needy families around the world.

About 60 years ago, several representatives from Union UCC accompanied cows on a cargo ship to Europe to help families recovering from the devastation of World War II.

Children of Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, raised money from a lemonade stand to purchase gifts for young patients at DuPont Children’s Hospital, Del.

The Lutheran kids had a great time shopping and selecting items to send to those in the hospital to make them feel better.
