Weisenberg Twp teen soars with the Eagles

Aidan J. Turner, youngest son of Joe and Elaine Turner of Weisenberg Township and member of Troop 150, Orefield, received the rank of Eagle Scout Nov. 26 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish Center, Orefield.

He joins his two older brothers, Ryan and Timothy, in achieving the highest rank in Scouting.

Aidan began as a Tiger Cub with Pack 34 in Morristown, N.J., then transferred to Cub Pack 150 in 2007.

He earned his Arrow of Light and bridged to Troop 150 in 2010.

Aidan earned 30 merit badges and served his troop in many leadership roles.

He completed the National Youth Leadership Program and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Aidan assisted in leading a high adventure canoe trek through the lakes of the Adirondacks in 2013 and a trek through Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. in 2014.

He participated in a three-week Rayado program at Philmont in 2016, where he hiked 165 miles, camped and developed leadership skills to become a ranger.

For his Eagle project, he built two 6-feet by 8-feet brick paved patios, with benches, to create a bird watching area in the recreation park in Weisenberg Township.

This quiet area offers a space for hikers to sit and enjoy a picnic lunch.

In performing this project, he demonstrated leadership, adherence to the principles of Scouting and provided a needed service in his community.

Aidan, a senior at Allentown Central Catholic High School, plans to attend Penn College of Technology to study industrial design in fall 2017.
