Northwestern Middle School had a school-wide presidential election on Nov. 7.

Students spent several weeks leading up to the election, learning in their social studies classes what is involved in electing a president in this country.

Teachers taught the students about the electoral process, the Electoral College and the difference between popular and electoral votes.

During morning homeroom, students voted with results being tallied and turned in throughout the day to be placed on the main foyer bulletin board.

The map titled, “United Homerooms of NWLMS,” showed the United States divided into 26 sections with each assigned a homeroom number.

The map was updated throughout the day by students.

To allow the older students a greater “voice” in the election, they were assigned more electoral votes in an effort to mimic the concept the more populated states receive more electoral votes.
