Lynn board OKs 2017 budget

Lynn Township supervisors approved the 2017 budget with no increase in taxes.

The budget is a conservative one. No big expenses are anticipated for 2017.

The biggest expense would be the cost of the bridge cross the creek that separates Ontelaunee Park and the dog park.

Cetronia Ambulance Corps will receive $50,000 for its coverage within the township.

The millage rate remains at 0.2 mllls and a 2-percent raise was given to the office staff and roadmaster.

The board anticipates there might be a surplus by the end of the year.

In other matters, the board set the closeout meeting for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27.

Reorganization is set for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2, 2017, and auditors will reorganize 7 p.m. Jan. 4, 2017.

Supervisors gave the Hauser plan a waiver on the requirement to install a berm and trees on the property line.

Approval was conditional upon receiving a letter from the neighbor agreeing to the proposal.

Underground electric service has been installed in this location.

Lynnport Fire Chief Clark Mantz said firefighters responded to six calls in November.

There will be a Breakfast with Santa 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 18 at the fire station.

New Tripoli Fire Company members will be busy next month with several firefighting classes scheduled including HazMat refresher course, tactical emergency casualty care class, electric safety, mass casualty and ICS 400 class.

The fire company is also having a Texas Roadhouse gift card sale.

Texas Roadhouse gift cards may be ordered 6-6:30 p.m. Mondays. Pickup dates are 7-8 p.m. Dec. 20-23.

Tax Collector Mary Ann Metzger, requested that the duplicate bill fee be raised from $3 to $5 and the tax certification fee be increased from $15 to $20. Supervisors agreed and the increases will be shown in the 2017 fee schedule.

Kathy Hermany asked if there was any interest in raising the Ontelaunee Park rental fees for the new year.

Supervisors will discuss the issue at the closeout meeting.

Township engineer Chris Noll noted the highway occupancy permit and bridge plans for Ontelaunee Park should be ready in January 2017.

Kathy Hermany was praised for her tireless efforts in organizing, conducting and overseeing “Night in the Country.” Chairman Justin Smith, representing the Northwestern Recreation Commission, presented her with a gift certificate.
