Upper Macungie woman dies in 6-vehicle crash

An Upper Macungie woman was killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a chain reaction accident 2:10 p.m. Dec. 5 on Route 222 South, north of Krocks Road, in Lower Macungie Township.

Fay A. Parry, 81, of 100 Ramapo Trail, Upper Macungie Township, was pronounced dead by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Richard Pender 2:40 p.m. at the scene, Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said.

An autopsy to determine manner and cause of death was performed Dec. 6.

According to State Police Troop M, Fogelsviile, Parry was a rear passenger in a vehicle driven by Michael George, 47, of Rio Rancho, N.M.

Grim said her cause of death is attributed to multiple blunt force trauma. Her manner of death was ruled an accident. Several other people also reported injuries.

According to police, Gary Pellegrino, 65, of White Plains, N.Y., was driving a commercial vehicle south on Route 222, when, for unknown reasons failed to stop for slowing and stopped traffic at the traffic light at Krocks Road, resulting in a chain reaction crash involving five additional vehicles. Other drivers involved in the crash were Andrew M. Profit, 52, of Stokesdale, N.C.; Clarence C. Hausman, 59, of Breinigsville, Cayeligh L. Butz, 20, of Alburtis and Daniel Louie V. Ajero, 20, of Whitehall. All vehicles were removed by Hauser’s Towing and impounded pending further investigation by state police.
