Steckel and Stopp donates to rec board

Keith Strohl of the law firm of Steckel and Stopp, Slatington, brought a check when he visited at the Nov. 30 meeting of the Northwestern Recreation Commission.

The $525 was collected for dress-down day at the office during the year.

Strohl said he was chosen to deliver the check because he does most of the work for the commission.

“The fields are an integral part of what Northwestern has to offer,” he said.

In other matters, Kathy Hermany refused to accept pay for chairing the Night in the Country committee she will receive a gift certificate.

Jim Hughes, maintenance manager reported an identified individual has been putting trash in the dumpster at the recreation fields.

Security cameras will be put in places.

Meetings for 2017 will be held last Wednesday of each month: Jan. 25, Feb. 22, March 29, April 26, May 31, June 28, July 26, Aug. 30, Sept. 27, Oct. 25 and Nov. 29. There will be no meeting in December.

Hughes has prices for a gate behind the Shell station because presently cars come in and out for the car cruise during Night in the Country at the same time people are using it for a walking gate.

Surveyors have begun work on the walking trail at the fields.

Frank Chukoskie was elected president of the Northwestern Youth Athletic Association.

Recreation commission board President Don Link said he has a lot of good people around him to make it easier.

As he does every November, Link thanked everyone for all they do.

He said they are good stewards of community funds and mentioned they will be spending some large amounts of money in the coming year.

The group has a good decision-making process and is a great group of people to be a part of, he said.
