Volunteer firefighters from Woodlawn, Cetronia, Tri-Clover and Greenawalds fire departments were dispatched 9:40 a.m. Nov. 30 for a gas odor at the Wine and Spirits store, 1516 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., South Whitehall.
Woodlawn Deputy Fire Chief James Kutz spoke with The Press at the scene.
“Our normal protocol is to block off two properties or 100 feet,” Kutz said. “We then check the property and surrounding properties, if no odor is found we call it good.”
“We always have the gas company double check.”
He said there was no gas odor found inside the Wine and Spirits store or surrounding properties.
Even though there was no odor found, UGI will be double checking the property, Kutz said.
Kutz said the incident was called under control at 10 a.m.
No injures were reported, he said.
South Whitehall Township police and Cetronia Ambulance Corps assisted at the scene.
This was the second time in approximately four months firefighters were called out to a reported gas odor at the store.
