Board approves nursing home director, assistant

Lehigh County commissioners have unanimously approved the appointments of Michelle Julian as director and Justin Cumello as assistant director of nursing, respectively, for Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall.

Both Julian and Cumello addressed the board at its Nov. 22 meeting.

“It is really a privilege for me to serve in this capacity,” Julian said. “I thank you for the opportunity, and I am really grateful.”

Cumello, a resident of Lower Macungie, who has worked in the health care industry for 17 years, said he is excited about the opportunity to serve the county.

“I truly appreciate this opportunity,” he said.

In other business, commissioners approved a grant for the Sixth Street Shelter, Allentown.

The $154,483 grant comes from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Emergency Solutions Grant program and will be used for the renovation and reporting purposes, along with fees associated with administration.

Also, the board unanimously approved professional service agreements for Attorneys Alfred Stirba and Sean Poll to serve as criminal contract attorneys for the county public defenders office.

Commissioner Thomas Creighton of Lynn Township said the professional service agreements provide for defendants who cannot afford their own counsel.

“They roughly entertain about 400 cases per year,” he said, adding the two attorneys will allow for additional clients to be represented.
