Letter to the editor: Warehouse news ruins Thanksgiving
To the Editor:
I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. I did not, for three separate reasons.
First, I watched my alma mater Catasauqua be defeated by rival Northampton on Thanksgiving morning. Although it wasn’t the result I was hoping for, I was still very proud of the team’s effort.
Second, I was required to go into my job from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., effectively ruining any chance at having a family dinner with my loved ones. It’s on occasions like this that I wonder why I attempted to better myself with obtaining an advanced education if it hasn’t led to a better quality of life, as observed by simply getting to have a national holiday off from work like everyone else.
Lastly, my holiday was most dismally and harshly ruined when I learned the remaining countryside outside of Catasauqua will be decimated by more gigantic warehousing, which none of the citizenry of the surrounding municipalities wants. This comes in addition to the already despised FedEx Ground complex already being built.
This additional warehousing will add even more traffic to an already ridiculous estimate brought on by FedEx to the section of Race Street between Airport Road and Willowbrook Road. Traffic was already bad prior to all this new talk of warehouses, due to all the new housing that popped up within the past decade. Now I can’t wait to see how much worse things will become after all these new warehouses and road-widening projects are finished and in full swing.
And with added rumors circling about Willowbrook Golf Course being sold off and developed into more low-income housing, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s time to move out of the beloved little Iron Borough.
Since it was Thanksgiving, I wanted to give thanks to the officials of both Allen and East Allen townships, the Rockefeller Group, Lehigh Valley International Airport and the Fuller Family Trust for helping make all these nightmares come true to destroy the once peaceful quality of life the people of Catasauqua, North Catasauqua and portions of Northampton Borough all once had.
Thanks for nothing.
