STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject is biology because I enjoy learning about ecology and botany. It’s fun to see how all different living things interact on a large scale. I also have an interest in plants and am fascinated by the complexity of cellular biology.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I am a National Merit Commended Student and a member of the National Honor Society. I also received Emmaus High School’s Award for Academic Excellence, as well as specific awards for Excellence in Biology, Chemistry and American Studies.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I dance ballet at Dolly Haltzman Dance Academy and Repertory Dance Theater. I am also a conservation ambassador of the Wildlife Leadership Academy. As a conservation ambassador I do education, service, art and media outreach relating to forest ecology, biology and current conservation issues year round. I am a member of the Earth Watch club and am the treasurer of the Mud Club.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: After high school, I hope to work toward environmental science and biology degrees in college.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: My biggest challenge so far has been balancing school work with extracurricular activities. It can be really hard to manage time effectively so that I can get everything done.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I would like to be remembered for helping the environment in some way in the struggle against climate change.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My parents are Ann and Gray Bebout. Alan Bebout is my only brother. I don’t have any pets.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I admire Misty Copeland, a principal dancer at American Ballet Theater and trailblazer in the ballet world, because of her perseverance, hard work and dedication to ending discrimination of both race and gender.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: It is important to learn to motivate yourself and everything is easier if you’re organized.
