Gonoude places 23rd at MAC Meet

Several Salisbury graduates played on college athletic teams during the fall season.

Senior goalie Emily Hoats started 11 of DeSales’ 19 games for the women’s soccer team. She helped the Bulldogs win five of those games, recorded 4 shutouts on the season, and came up with 32 saves in net. Hoats finished her final college season with a .640 save percentage. DeSales went 9-10 in 2016 and advanced to the MAC Freedom Conference championship game.

Hoats’ former teammate in high school, DeSales junior Shannon Pennella saw time in net in four of the Bulldogs’ games as well. She allowed one goal in roughly 55 minutes of net time and recorded one save.

Ursinus College sophomore Mackenzie Groff recently capped her second college soccer season with two goals and two assists in 13 games played. That came after a freshman season when she scored five goals, four of those coming in the first five games of her college career. Ursinus finished 2016 with a 6-9-1 record.

DeSales cross country runner sophomore Kyle Gonoude was one of the Bulldogs’ top runners this past season. He placed 23rd at the MAC Cross Country Championships in a time of 27:49.8. A few days later, he placed 95th at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regionals in 26:53. He was the fifth-fastest Bulldog to cross the finish line at the league meet.

The Catholic University men’s soccer season recently came to an end, and one former Falcon played a key part in the Cardinals’ success. Sean Adams, a senior midfielder/forward, started in all 18 games and tallied one goal and two assists. He finished his career with an All-Landmark Conference Second Team selection after an impressive senior season.

Troy Parton, a redshirt sophomore on the Kutztown University football team, has made the transition from high school quarterback to college wide receiver rather impressively. Parton finished 2016 with 53 catches for 383 yards for the Golden Bears. He recorded career-highs in single game receptions (15) and yards (95) against Mercyhurst. His 53 catches ranked second on the team, with his receiving yards coming in third amongst all wideouts.

The St. John’s University women’s soccer team advanced to the Big East Tournament semifinals game before falling to Marquette University. Freshman goalie and former Falcon Jordan Kamp did not see any game action, but was able to learn valuable information from two-time Big East Goalkeeper of the Year Diana Poulin.

Former Falcons football player Mason Donaldson was also on a Division 1 roster. The University of Connecticut punter will look to make an impact for the Golden Eagles next season.
