Emily Zimmerman
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am a senior at Emmaus High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject is biology. I think it’s so cool to learn and understand how things as big as our planet to things as small as cells in our body work. I also love conducting experiments to help further understand the subjects we’re learning about.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I have received my Gold Award through Girl Scouts and the union league of Philadelphia’s Good citizenship award. I am a part of the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the French Honor Society. I am the clarinet section leader in the EHS band, I’m a youth representative on my church council and I have served as a delegate to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I am heavily involved in the band program at school, I am in the marching band, symphonic band, orchestra, pit orchestra and wind ensemble. This year I will also be directing a clarinet choir. I am very involved in the Girl Scout program in the area. I have been a Girl Scout for nine years. I am involved in my church as well, where I participate and help plan a lot of the youth events. Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in the art and literary magazine as well as the Stinger, the school newspaper.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: My next goal after high school is to go to college and pursue a degree in international affairs.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: My biggest challenge to date would be my Gold award. For my project I renovated a room in the basement of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit to be used as a fellowship and community space. It was hard to reconcile all the different ideas of everyone on my team and to plan such a large project. But everything worked out and the room turned out beautifully.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I would like to be remembered for being a positive influence on my peers, especially the underclassmen in the band and the younger girls in my Troop. I want to be remembered for making an impact on them and bettering the community around me.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My mom, Adelaide, my dad, Bruce, my brother, Nathan and my sister Megan.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I admire my grandmother, because she is constantly a positive and loving person no matter what is going on in her own life.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Learn how to manage your time so you can have some fun.
