The Macungie Historical Society and Macungie Boy Scout Troop #71 and Macungie Girl Scout Troop #6413 will host the 88th annual Sheeprock Trek and Thanksgiving sunrise service 5:45 a.m. Nov. 24.
The hike will depart from the Macungie Fire Company, 31 S. Walnut St., Macungie. Free parking will be available on the fire company parking lot. Refreshments will include hot chocolate and doughnuts and will be served at the Macungie Fire Company after the service.
Christopher A. Picarello, Eagle Scout, Macungie Boy Scout Troop #71, will deliver the Thanksgiving message.
The event is free and open to the general public. No registration is required.
William Shoemaker, a local civic leader, state legislator and founder of the first Macungie Boy Scout Troop, organized the Trek in 1929 as an activity sponsored by the Young People’s Council of Solomon’s Reformed Church. Sheeprock was chosen for this annual pilgrimage because from that point on the mountain parts of Lehigh, Berks and Northampton counties are visible in a panoramic view.
In the event of inclement weather conditions, the program will be held in the fire department garages 5:45 a.m.
