Winter Light Spectacular kicks off Nov. 11 at Zoo

Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, and Christmas Décor will present its third season of the Winter Light Spectacular, featuring 1 million lights, 5:30-10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday Nov. 11 to Jan. 1, 2017.

Guests will experience eight distinctly-themed display areas, popular holiday movies, a new Grinch Whoville scene setting and more.

Joanna Bertalan from Walt Disney World, Florida, will become Elsa on the Zoo’s new ice stage.

She will sing and amaze visitors Nov. 11, 13, 17, 18, 19, 23, 26, 27 and Dec. 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, 23, 30.

There will also be church choirs walking around the zoo, signing favorite holiday carols on select dates during the Winter Light Spectacular.

Stop by the Bison Auditorium and have a photo taken with Santa Claus. Treat stations throughout the Zoo will feature s’mores, hot chocolate, hot dogs, sausage and more.

There will be no showings Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.

In an effort to accommodate an increase in attendance this year, the Zoo has partnered with Lehigh Carbon Community College to provide parking and shuttle service from its Lot B parking lot.

Dates of service will be Nov. 25 and 26, and Dec. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17 and 23.

Trip times will be continuous, 5:30-10:30 p.m., with two school bus shuttles running on staggering time frames.

Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, will participate in the Wreaths Across America program noon Dec. 17.

Ceremony will include military flag presentation, 21-gun salute by Allen O. Delke Post 16 of Slatington, and laying of remembrance wreaths on the graves of all veterans buried in Morgenland Cemetery.

Join them to honor and remember all veterans past and present.

Sponsorship is a per wreath fee or a monetary contribution is greatly appreciated.

The church is accepting coats, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, boots and sweaters during November to benefit the Sixth Street Shelter, Rescue Mission, Day Break and the Lehigh County Conference of Churches.

Donations may be dropped off in the pastor’s office.

Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Pantry is open 9-11 a.m. the first Saturday of each month.

The pantry is also open 4-6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.

Senior citizens are served 10 a.m. to noon. the previous Wednesday.

The food pantry, serving Heidelberg, Lowhill, Lynn and Weisenberg townships, accepts donations 9-11 a.m. the last Saturday and the third Tuesday of each month and by appointment.

Donations may also be dropped off at both New Tripoli Banks and ESSA Bank.
