District 11 Football recap
The first week of the 2016 high school football postseason got under way this weekend in District 11. Here’s a quick recap of Lehigh Valley Press area games. For more about your local teams see this week’s editions of the Press.
District 11
Class 6A
Liberty-Emmaus
Top-seeded Emmaus advanced with a 23-13 win over No. 8 seed Liberty.
The Hurricanes nearly came all the way back from a 16-0 deficit and were trailing 16-13 late in the game. The Hornets sealed the win with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Blake Reed to Brian Mantone on a fourth and two with under six minutes left to play.
Sone Ntoh (11 carries, 74 yards) scored twice for Emmaus, once on a 48-yard kick off return in the first quarter and again on a 10-yard run in the second quarter. The return came on a free kick after a high Liberty snap on a punt turned into a safety and a 2-0 Emmaus lead with 5:10 left in the first quarter.
The Hurricanes came back with two third-quarter touchdowns, one on a five-yard run by Darian Street and the other on a 15-yard pass from Zion Whitehurst to Jay McGill.
The Hornets’ Lubens Myers had 86 yards on 24 carries.
Emmaus hosts No. 5 Freedom next Friday.
Freedom-Stroudsburg
The No. 5 seed Patriots beat the No. 4 Mountaineers 21-20.
Cyrus Thompson scored three touchdowns for the Patriots, including a go-ahead score from five yards out with 8:40 left in the game.
The Patriots travel to top-seeded Emmaus next week.
Nazareth-Parkland
The No. 3 seed Trojans beat the No. 6 seed Blue Eagles 38-7.
Parkland will host No. 7 Easton next week.
Class 5A
East Stroudsburg North-Whitehall
The top-seeded Zephyrs beat the Timberwolves 55-20.
Zach Gilbert completed went 8-for-9 with 232 passing yards and five touchdowns.
Harisson Kasai (114 receiving yards) caught two touchdowns and Desmond Boykin (101 yards) caught three.
Marrero Braxton (5 carries, 38 yards) and Parvel Ethan ran for touchdowns in the win.
Alex Khouri went 7-for-7 on extra-point kicks for Whitehall.
The Zephyrs host No. 2 Southern Lehigh next week.
Class 4A
Bethlehem Catholic-Central Catholic
The No. 4 seed Hawks knocked off top-seeded Central Catholic 39-33.
Javon Clements threw for a pair of touchdowns, completing seven of 13 passes for 170 yards. Karim Powell caught both touchdowns and hauled in five passed for 148 yards. Randy Terry ran for 92 yards and a score on 24 carries.
The Hawks will host No. 3 Saucon Valley next week.
Eastern Conference
Class 4A
Northwestern-Blue Mountain
The Tigers fell to the Eagles in the Eastern Conference titles game, 51-30.
Northwestern’s Trevor Cunningham had 141 rushing yards on 17 carries and 65 receiving yards on six catches.
Nonleague
Northampton-Lower Merion
The Konkrete Kids picked up their first win of the season, beating Lower Merion 21-0.
Collin Schucker scored on runs of 14 and 35 yards for Northampton. Jared Stauffer had a one-yard touchdown run. Jason Santos was good on three extra points.
