MACUNGIE COLUMN

Nov. 8 is Election Day. Don’t forget to exercise your right and responsibility to vote.

The Macungie curbside leaf collection will take place weekly during the month of November. Residents should rake their leaves to the curb by 7 a.m. Leaves can also be taken to the borough garage on South Church Street.

The Parkland Art League will hold its meeting 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St. Internationally known artist Hong Tatt Foo will be the guest demonstrator for the meeting.

There will be an indoor flea market at Macungie Memorial Park 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12.

There will be a family bingo 7 p.m. Nov. 18 downstairs at the Macungie Memorial Park building to raise money for the Macungie Pool slide. In addition to 20 games of bingo, there will also be raffles and a snack bar featuring Miss Alice’s famous turkey barbeque and more. Doors open 6 p.m. Seating is limited so reserve early. Requests can be mailed to 139 S. Poplar Street, Macungie.

The Friends of the Macungie Institute will present a holiday tea noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Macungie Institute. The tea includes tea sandwiches, scones and desserts. Seating is limited and reservations are required. For more information, call 610-966-7830.

There will be an art sale and reception 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Macungie Institute.

Concordia Lutheran Church will hold its annual chili cook-off 2 p.m. Nov. 20 followed by a talent show and the “Not-So-Newlywed Game.” All are welcome to taste and judge chili and stay for the show. There is a small donation for your voting pepper.

Kalmbach Memorial Park will sponsor a community blood drive Nov. 22. The blood drive will be held at Macungie Institute. For more information, call 610-965-1140.

Grace Lutheran Church of Macungie will participate in a Thanksgiving Eve community service 7 p.m. at Macungie Church of the Nazarene.

The 88th annual Sheep- rock Trek and Thanksgiving Sunrise Service will leave promptly 5:45 a.m. Nov. 24 (yes, Thanksgiving morning) from the Macungie Fire Company. Boy Scout Troop 71 will light the way up Macungie Mountain where there will be a brief Thanksgiving message by Eagle Scout Christopher A. Picarello. Girl Scout Troop 6413 will serve hot chocolate and donuts at the end of the hike. The event is coordinated by the Macungie Historical Society. Hikers should be prepared with flashlights, gloves and hiking boots.

In the case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the garage of the Macungie Fire Department, starting 5:45 a.m. For more information, call the Macungie Historical Society at 610-965-0372.

The deadline for entries for the 14th annual Gingerbread Creation Competition and Display is Nov. 30. Over $900 of awards will be given for different categories. The Macungie Holiday Lighting will take place at the Flower Park near the railroad tracks 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29. There will be holiday music and light refreshments.

The Great-Eastern PA Brewery Collectibles Show will be held Dec. 2-3 at Macungie Memorial Hall.

Macungie Holiday will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 10. Local businesses, the Historical Society and Macungie Memorial Park participate in this borough-wide event. The Macungie Institute will feature Farmer’s Market vendors; Boy Scout displays and food; and Santa, Mrs. Claus and Jasper the Bear for photos.

The Friends of the Macungie Institute is sponsoring a bus trip to “Radio City Tribute Christmas Spectacular Show” at Doolan’s Shore Club Dinner Theatre in Spring Lake, N.J. Dec. 2. This event is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Macungie Institute. For more information, call Karen at 610-966-7830.

The next bus trips to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs are scheduled Nov. 21 and Dec. 19. Call the park at 610-966-4289 to reserve a seat.

The Lower Lehigh Lions meet 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 and 22 at the Macungie Institute.

Macungie Fire Company meets 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at social quarters.

The Macungie Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary meets 7 p.m. Dec. 6.

Macungie VFW Post 9264 meets 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the post home on Lehigh Street.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Macungie VFW Post 9264 meets 1 p.m. Nov. 17 at the post home.

Macungie Rod and Gun Club Board meets 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the club.

Macungie Borough Council meets 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 and 21 and Dec. 5 at Borough Hall, 21 Locust St., Macungie.

The Macungie Park Board of Directors meeting will be held downstairs 7 p.m. Nov. 22. The public is welcome.

Bingo is held weekly on Saturday evenings at Macungie Memorial Park. Doors open 5 p.m. and games begin 6:45 p.m. For more information, call 610-966-4289.
