District 11 cross country roundup
Several Lehigh Valley Press area teams competed in the District 11 Cross Country Meet Wednesday at Bethlehem Municipal.
Parkland’s boys cross country team took first place in Class 3A.
The Trojans’s Hailemichael Geiger and Sam Morgan finished third and fourth, respectively, to lead the team over second place Southern Lehigh.
Riley Williamson (8th), Nicholas Bower (12th) and Steven Kaleycik (22nd) were also part of the Trojans’ top five at the meet.
Emmaus’ Del Vierling took fifth place overall as the Hornets finished sixth as a team.
Northampton’s Isaac N’Jenga was the top finisher for the Konkrete Kids, taking 23rd place overall.
Isaac Gross (25th) and Pedro LaRotta (26th) led Freedom and Liberty, respectively.
The Patriots took eighth place in the boys race while the Hurricanes were ninth and Northampton was 10th.
Caleb Staub finished 88th for Whitehall.
Pleasant Valley’s Seth Slavin won the boys race in 16:09. It marked the second title in two weeks for the Bears’ senior, who won the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference title a week earlier in the same Bethlehem Municipal course.
Southern Lehigh boys team finished second and will join Parkland at the state meet.
In boys Class 2A, Northwestern Lehigh’s Robert Leiser was the top finisher among Lehigh Valley Press coverage area teams. The Tiger junior took third place, followed by teammate Phillip Castrine in fifth place. Both will move on to states for Northwestern, which took fifth place as a team in the boys Class 2A race.
Bethlehem Catholic’s Jacob Maruscak was 37th at the meet. Salisbury’s Bryce Kimmey (72nd) and Michael Sosnowski (73rd) finished back-to-back in the boys Class 2A race.
Catasauqua’s Alec Hartranft placed 80th in boys 2A.
Saucon Valley junior Ethan Bernstein won the race in 16:55. Notre Dame (Green Pond) and North Schuylkill finished first and second, respectively, in Class 2A boys to qualify for states.
In boys Class A, Tri-Valley’s Wayne Reilly took first place in 17:31 and Mahanoy Area took first place as a team to garner the only Class A team berth to states.
In girls Class 3A, Liberty’s Raisa Kochmaruk took second place overall, finishing just three seconds behind winner Allana Powlette (Stroudsburg), who finished in 18:27.
Kochmaruk will move on to states, along with fellow Lehigh Valley Press area runners Abby Dalton (Emmaus, fifth place), Sydney DelVecchio (Parkland, 10th place), Lyndsey Gallagher (Northampton, 11th place).
Emmaus’ Abby Heilenman (17th), Liberty’s Grace Haas (18th) and Parkland’s Maddie Zaun (19th) were just a few places from qualifying, which went to the top 15 in girls Class 3A. The top 10 individuals who are not part of qualifying teams make states in Class 2A and 3A.
Whitehall’s Rachel Herr led the Zeyphyr girls with a 36th-place finish. Freedom’s Ally Young finished 44th.
Stroudsburg and Easton were the top two team finishers and will both take their top seven runners to states, which will be held next weekend at Hershey Park.
In girls Class 2A, Bethlehem Catholic’s Rowan Pepe took second place to lead the Hawks to second place overall and the team trip to states that goes along with that finish. The rest of Beca’s state-qualifying top five included Lauren Bunke (11th) and Mary Scheidel (13th), Hope Brown (26t5th) and Solei Rodriguez (29th).
Northwestern’s Madeline Consuelos and Molly Tarvin took third and fourth place, respectively as the Tigers ran to a fourth-place team finish. Teammate Hannah Herzon (17th) also qualified for states.
Salisbury’s Brooke Rogers finished 62nd overall.
Central Catholic’s Emily Deschler won the girls Class 2A race in 19:34, leading her team to first place.
In girls Class A, Catasauqua’s Montana Muller (34th) and Katherine Verenna (35th) finished back-to-back for the Rough Riders.
Marian’s Tina Capparell took first place in 19:13 and led her team to the victory in Class A. The Fillies placed three runners in the top 10 to edge Minersville for the team title.
