Halloween fun planned at the library Oct. 29
Back by popular demand, local author Charlie Adams will present an evening of spectacular ghost stories 7:13 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Lower Macungie Township Library.
There will be Halloween Fun with “Jack” the Mack Truck 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 outside the library, weather permitting. There will be trunk or treating and photo opportunities. A special Halloween storytime will be held in the library 10:30 a.m.
Library League – a monthly program for students in third to fifth grades meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. The program includes a story, exploration and problem-solving.
There will be an afterschool stories program for students in kindergarten through fifth grades 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. Oct. 25. Each monthly program will offer age appropriate stories and activities.
Crazy 8 Math for students in grades four and five will be held for four weeks starting 4:15 p.m. Nov. 1 and continuing Nov. 8, 15 and 22. Children will have fun learning about math through activities like “Funny Money” and “Glow in the Dark City.” Participants should plan to attend all sessions.
There will be a family storytime for children of all ages 6:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7.
Creation Station will meet 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 12. Creation Station is in the children’s area of the library and offers supplies for a special craft or activity as well as books with ideas that support the monthly theme.
Library Explorers, a monthly program for students in kindergarten through second grade meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14. The program includes a story, hands-on exploration and problem- solving.
The teen advisory board meets 3:30 p.m. Oct. 21 and Nov. 18.
New at the library are museum passes for Allentown Art Museum, America on Wheels and the Liberty Bell Museum.
The library offers “Book a Librarian” services for one-on-one help with using eReaders, downloading eBooks, tablets or computer programs such as Excel and Microsoft Word.
The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. Nov. 2 to discuss “In the Unlikely Event” by Judy Blume.

The fall book sale will be held 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 18 and 19. On Nov. 19 the bag sale will start 2:30 p.m. Member preview night is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17. Memberships are available at the door. All proceeds will benefit the library.
The library is no longer accepting books for the fall book sale. Books will be accepted again in January 2017.
The Friends of the Library will have its next meeting 10 a.m. Jan. 21, 2017.
The Lower Macungie Dog Park at Spring Creek Estates Park, 6806 Goor St., Macungie is now open. The park will be open with free access for public use until Nov. 1. Effective Nov. 1, applications will be accepted at the township building and a key fob will be needed for access to the park. The dog park rules and application form are available at the township building and at www.lowermac.com.
The Macungie Minstrelaires will present “Lyrics and Laughter” at Lower Macungie Middle School. Show times are 8 p.m. Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29. Matinees are 2 p.m. Oct. 22 and 29. Part of this year’s proceeds will benefit Gift of Life.

Trick-or-treating in Lower Macungie Township will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31. Some homeowner’s associations may have set alternate dates for their neighborhoods.
Curbside leaf collection begins the week of Oct. 17 and continues through Nov. 25.
The board of commissioners and staff are holding the 11th annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who will not be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and phone cards will be accepted at the community center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday through Nov. 30. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center. Over the last 10 years, 903 boxes of donated items were sent to 110 service members.
There will be a mother-son Halloween party for boys in kindergarten through sixth grade 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 21 at the community center. To register, call or go to the community center 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or call 610-966-6924.
There will be “Breakfast With A Minion” 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5 at the community center.
The eighth annual craft/vendor fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 19 at the community center. Over 100 crafters and vendors will participate. Brookside Deli will offer lunch 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch can be purchased 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A free shuttle from the parking lot to the door is available.
The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Nov. 7 and 21 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.
The community center offers a number of activities. Programs for the fall include ballroom dance classes, balance classes for seniors, Zumba, guided meditation/relaxation, Tai Chi, Chair Yoga, card making classes, Pilates and Cize Live. Children’s programs include art classes, Kindermusik, Toddlers and Tutus, Soccer-Mommy/Daddy and Me and cooking classes.

Family open gym time is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.
Yard waste site hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 31. The site is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Starting Nov. 1, the hours will be noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are now required for dropoff. Applications can be found at www.lowermac.com. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.
